First build: AVONA Callis 32, RED 13sp, DUKE or Light Bicycle wheels

The frame and wheels I am considering for a 32-inch gravel race bike, with a target weight of 7.5 kg or less.

The frame

The AVONA CALLIS 32 is my leading candidate and the first production carbon 32-inch gravel bike I’ve found. I am looking at the XL.

It has already shown that it is race-ready. Leon Kaiser won the men’s elite race at Sea Otter Europe Girona, part of the UCI Gravel World Series, on 19 September 2026. Liam Cahill’s report for road.cc takes a closer look at the winning bike.

My target for the complete bike is 7.5 kg or less.

The wheels

I am aiming below 1,500 g for the pair, ideally around 1,200–1,300 g. I am looking around 44–50 mm deep or a little more, with 30–32 mm internal width preferred. Those are targets, not a specification I have found and ordered.

Three options are on my list:

  • DUKE Sierra 42 in 32-inch. Its 42 mm depth and 28 mm internal width sit below my preferred dimensions, but it is a useful option to compare.
  • Light Bicycle Anax Gravel 32-inch. The published 44 mm depth and 32 mm internal width are closer to what I have in mind.
  • Newmen’s 32-inch Streem G.62 CS. This goes deeper, at 62 mm, and is narrower internally at 27 mm. Its carbon-spoke construction interests me, although the initial offer is for bike manufacturers and availability for a separate build needs checking.

I briefly considered BERD’s polymer spokes, but at similar weights I am leaning towards bladed carbon for the potential aero advantage. I am trying to find a builder who can put together a 1,200–1,300 g wheelset. Light Bicycle and DUKE are strong contenders.

I am very interested in ROSE’s 32-inch prototype but haven’t found a confirmed production release date. I imagine this will be at least a few months before production, with an early spring release more likely. It may be a while before it becomes an option for this build.
